Songwriter Vernon Chappel Passes

GOSPELflava was made aware of the passing of gospel singer, songwriter and musician Elder Vernon Chappel on Sunday, January 27th.  Chappel’s composition, Praise Jehovah was a huge hit for Evangelist Beverly Crawford on her debut solo CD, Jesus Precious King. Other compositions were recorded by Joe Pace, Evangelist Dorothy Norwood and the Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar Mass Choir.  Chappel released a number of solo projects independently.

A resident of North Carolina, Chappell served for several years as Music Pastor for the River Church in Durham. Funeral services are pending.
