The Walls Group, Tri-City Singers Reunion and Israel Headline Chicago Gospel Fest
June 1 and second bring the glorious sons of Gospel music to the heart of the city as the 33rd annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival takes place at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park. The Chicago Gospel Music Festival is the largest outdoor music festival celebrating Gospel music where it all began in the mecca Chicago, Illinois.
“Gospel music is the inspiration for so many music genres including the blues, soul, R&B, pop and jazz,” said Mark Kelly, Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. “We look forward to celebrating the music started here in Chicago more than eighty years ago and the current scene.”
This year’s headliners include Fo Yo Soul recording artist and Grammy and Stellar Award nominated siblings The Walls Group, quartet favorites The Canton Spirituals, multiple Grammy and Stellar Award Winner Israel Houghton and New Breed and the highly touted reunion of Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers. The festival will honor the legacy of the late Edwin Hawkins with a star studded tribute featuring Anita Wilson, Jonathan Nelson, Beverly Crawford, Ted Winn, Bryan Popin, Rudy Currence and Latice Crawford.
