Gospel Songwriter Elder George Jordan Passes
GOSPELflava and the Gospel Community is saddened with news of the passing of renowned musician, singer and songwriter Elder George Jordan of Chicago, Illinois.
A native of Detroit Michigan, Jordan moved to Chicago in 1960 and accepted the position of Minister of Music for the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Maceo Woods. He would go on to lead the famed Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir for more than 40 years.
Among Jordan’s most prominent compositions are Hello Sunshine, I’ll Get Home Someday, Step to Jesus and the ever popular Jesus Can Work It Out which was popularized by Dr. Charles G. Hayes and the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer Choir with Diane Williams on lead. Kurt Carr covered the song on his Awesome Wonder CD with Shervonne Wells on lead in 2000 and a remix was done by Cosmopolitan in 2005.
