Gospel Giant Al Bishop Hobbs Passes
The Gospel Announcers Guild released a statement regarding the passing of Al Hobbs.
It is with joy and sadness that we announce the home-going of our beloved GOSPEL INDUSTRY AFICIONADO, Dr. Al “The Bishop” Hobbs.
Al “The Bishop” Hobbs was simply one of the most interesting personalities you’re likely to ever cross paths with in this industry. Wearing as many hats as some specialty stores offer, Hobbs has earned the title of ‘Bishop’ with an empire to accompany it. He was responsible for the operation of two gospel record labels, and served as chairman of the Gospel Announcer’s Guild and Vice-Chairman of the industry’s leading organization – the Gospel Music Workshop Of America, Inc. (GMWA), under the leadership of Bishop Albert Jamison.
A recording artist, announcer, meeting planner, event coordinator, and successful entrepreneur, he was born June 4, 1943 in Decatur, Alabama. He is the father of Alex Carrington Hobbs, Asha Gabrellia Hobbs, and Bridgett Hobbs.
