Clark Sisters Nominated For BET Award
The Clark Sisters, were nominated to receive the “Dr Bobby Jones Gospel/Inspirational Award” at the 2020 BET Awards set to air Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 8pm EST. This is the first BET Award nomination for the group and the second major nomination for the song, “Victory”.
The Clark Sisters are a legendary gospel music group, comprised of sisters Jacky Clark Chisholm, Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark, Dorinda Clark Cole, and Karen Clark Sheard. Born and raised in Detroit, MI., they are the daughters of renowned gospel musician and choral director, the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, and have been singing together since 1966. The Clark Sisters have received numerous notable awards and honors collectively, including 3 Grammy Awards, 15 Stellar Awards, and one NAACP Image Award nomination. The Clark Sisters have produced 17 albums to date — including their most recent release: The Return. The Return, which debuted at #1 on Nielsen and #2 on Billboard, is a studio album with featured producers Jermaine Dupri, Rodney Jerkins, and Warryn Campbell, with a special rap cameo from Hip Hop legend, Snoop Dogg. The leading single, “Victory” is currently #3 on Gospel Billboard and is expected to go to number one! They are also slated to release an exclusive behind the scenes documentary of the making of the album along with a deluxe version of The Return due to release by the end of July 2020. Blige, Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah and Holly Carter, “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel”, premiered on Lifetime on April 11 with 2.7 million viewers! This was the highest viewed premiere on Lifetime since 2016 and was the most watched original movie on all of television in 2020! They have also been featured on mainstream press including 3 performances on The Grammy’s (along with three Grammy Award wins), interviews on Extra and The Real, and a special performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Credited for helping to bring gospel music to the mainstream, The Clark Sisters are considered pioneers of contemporary Gospel music.
