Back in Time: Laura Lee
Occasionally, we dig into details of some of the LPs (that’s right –LPs) we are spinning on our turntables in the GospelFlava.com offices…
Veteran soul singing sister Laura Lee took a dramatic detour into Gospel music in the early 1980s, with the release of Jesus Is The Light of My Life, on Myrrh Records. Co-produced by Al Green, and featuring organ and strings from the incomparable Jerry Peters, the album offered a mix of Lee’s take on some Gospel staples (“Jesus Will Fix It”, “I’ll Fly Away”).
Laura Lee was born to sing the gospel. Her mom, Ernestine Rundless was the leader of Detroit’s Meditation Singers, which recorded for the Specialty label and at one time included Della Reese as a member.
Lee went on to record a second LP in 1984, and then devoted her time to missions work.
