Its a changing ostellar-awards-logof the guard as Stellar Awards producer Barbara Wilson passes the baton to Deborah Byrd.  Wilson has helmed production efforts for the show since the very first show taped at Chicago’s Arie Crown Theater in 1985.  We talked with Barbara Wilson some years back, see our interview here. While taking a step back, Wilson is not going off the scene entirely, she will maintain an active presence with the show as executive consultant.

The 47th annual NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, were awarded Friday in Los Angeles, with “Straight Outta Compton” winning best film and “Creed” star Michael B. Jordan winning both entertainer of the year and best actor. “Empire” and “black-ish” won best drama and comedy TV shows, respectively.  In it’s only gospel related category, Tina Campbell, came away with a win:

GOSPELflava joins others around the country mourning the loss of Doris Sykes, lead singer for Pastor Maceo Woods’ Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir of Chicago, Illinois.  In a time when sopranos reigned supreme, Sykes had an inimitable style and held her own amongst the likes of Sarah Jordan Powell and  Hulah Gene Dunkin while serving as inspiration to newcomers like Lecresia Campbell, Felicia Coleman Evans and Tina Watson.
