Gospel Artists React To the Passing Of Music Icon, Prince

Prince Rogers Nelson passed away unexpectedly yesterday at the age of 57.  Having influences that defied genre, his presence will certainly be missed.  Gospel music’s best and brightest took to social media yesterday to express themselves.

Been a prince fan since day one. Played every instrument, and stood up for owning his own music. Huge loss today

I have been struggling all day with how to respond to the sad and unexpected death of one of the greatest musical talents of our time. On one hand, I feel compelled to celebrate Princes musical genius. While on the other, I would be remiss if the extent of my commentary was limited to praise and accolades! I have been reluctant to comment because I’ve struggled with whether or not I would be misunderstood and labeled as insensitive or judgmental. After thinking it through, Here’s where I landed:
If I were solely a music lover, the only right thing would be to laud Prince with applause for his artistic individuality, integrity and boldness. As an artist, he has left an amazing legacy!! However, Because I am a Christian, there is far more to be said in a moment where the world is forced to consider both the brevity of life and the suddenness of death. Therefore, I believe that this is a moment not only for us to mourn but provide people with a sober perspective that just might save their lives. Fortunately, I don’t have to say much at all because the writer of the article has struck the perfect balance that I had been searching for in my soul all day. Please read, I hope this is as helpful for you as it is for me.

The world has lost another Musical Giant. About 15 years ago, I had a friend working with Prince and he let Prince hear some of my music and said He Loved it. I was mad Hype!!! I’ve been waiting for a Prince concert to come any where near here so I can go see him live. ???? Smh RIP Prince! Play on play on. #Prince #rip

Like Einstein, Freud, Mozart – genius challenges, inspires & causes us all to reflect. Prince was no different. His contribution is timeless.
