Craft Recordings announces the release of\u00a0The Gospel Truth: The Complete Singles Collection<\/em><\/strong>, a brand new, comprehensive compilation that spotlights The Gospel Truth Records\u2014an imprint of the legendary soul label,\u00a0Stax Records<\/strong>. Set for a\u00a0November 13th\u00a0<\/strong>release date and available\u00a0digitally today<\/a>,\u00a0The Gospel Truth: The Complete Singles Collection<\/em>\u00a0includes all 17 singles \u2013 plus their respective B-sides \u2013 issued by the imprint between 1972 and 1974. Physical formats of the title, which\u00a0can be pre-ordered now<\/a>, include a two-CD set, as well as a vinyl edition. The three-LP set was pressed at Memphis Record Pressing and comes housed in a handsome triple-gatefold jacket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection also includes in-depth liner notes from\u00a0Jared Boyd<\/strong>, a Memphis-based journalist and host of NPR\u2019s\u00a0Beale Street Caravan<\/em>, who captured new interviews with Stax Records executive\u00a0Al Bell<\/strong>, trailblazing gospel artist\u00a0Rance Allen<\/strong>, and\u00a0Mary Peak Patterson<\/strong>, who helped
establish The Gospel Truth Records label.\u00a0In addition,\u00a0exclusive bundles<\/strong>\u00a0with a Gospel Truth T-shirt, plus a special gift with purchase (while supplies last), are available at the\u00a0Stax online store<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jared Boyd will be participating in an interactive conversation series titled Sips And Stanzas<\/em><\/strong>, hosted by\u00a0The National Museum of African American Music<\/strong>\u00a0(NMAAM), today in celebration of Gospel Music Heritage Month. Throughout 2020, Craft Recordings has celebrated the legacy of the pioneering gospel imprint. Beginning in March, all 25 albums in The Gospel Truth\u2019s catalog were reissued digitally\u2014most for the first time ever.  Now, as we celebrate Gospel Music Heritage Month <\/strong>this September, The Complete Singles Collection <\/em>completes the comprehensive rollout\u2014not only including the label\u2019s biggest hits but also unearthing rare, non-album singles and songs from artists who never released full albums on the imprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 1972, The Gospel Truth Records was conceived of by\u00a0Al Bell<\/strong>, who enlisted the help of leading blues and gospel promoter\u00a0Dave Clark<\/strong>. Operating until Stax closed its doors in 1975, Gospel Truth signed a diverse collection of acts. As Jared Boyd recounts in his liner notes, \u00a0\u201cthere\u00a0were the various uplifting arrangements of Chicago\u2019s\u00a0Reverend Maceo Woods<\/strong>\u00a0and his\u00a0Christian Tabernacle\u00a0Concert Choir<\/strong>. There were the evangelical harmonies of\u00a0Bob Hemphill<\/strong>\u2019s Birmingham-based, all-white quintet,\u00a0The Commanders<\/strong>. The label even made way for\u00a0Blue Aquarius<\/strong>, a psychedelic orchestra donning an earnest agenda in support of a 15-year-old Indian guru\u2026\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, It all began with Gospel Truth\u2019s very first signing: Detroit\u2019s Rance Allen<\/strong>, who, along with his brothers, stood out with a unique sound that blended the messages of the gospel with the popular soul, R&B and rock stylings of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gospel Truth\u2019s roster also included the likes of Rev. Jesse Jackson<\/strong>\u2019s People\u2019s Choir of Operation Push<\/strong>, who chronicled the Civil Rights struggle; Chicago vocal group 21st<\/sup> Century<\/strong> (who later scored a disco hit, \u201cTailgate,\u201d under the name of 21st Creation); soprano Louise McCord<\/strong>, whose cutting-edge message music was a highlight on the Wattstax Stage; and Operation Push soloist, and future Grammy nominee, Jacqui Verdell<\/strong>. Another signing was Joshie Joe Armstead<\/strong>\u2014a backing singer for the likes of Ike and Tina Turner<\/strong>, James Brown<\/strong>, and B.B. King<\/strong>, and an acclaimed songwriter who not only wrote alongside Nick Ashford<\/strong> and Valerie Simpson<\/strong> but also penned hits for Aretha Franklin<\/strong>, Ruby Andrews<\/strong>, and Carl Carlton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
