RECAP: Urban Soul Cafe Party at the 23rd Annual Stellar Awards (2008)
The Stellar Awards weekend kicked off on Thursday Jan. 10, 2008 with the Urban Soul Café, housed at Dave & Buster's in the Opry Mills Mall.
The party quickly served to be the hot spot of the night, with a bevy of artists stopping by to perform or just share in the evening's festivities. Performers for the evening included Cross Movement Records' Flame, along with VaShawn Mitchell, Joann Rosario, 21:03, Vik, Sean Simmonds and countless others.
Among the highlights were Flame literally shutting the party down with his fire-filled lyrical presentation, an impromptu performance of "Love Him Like I Do" from Deitrick and Damita Haddon (featuring Wayne "Holla Walla" Waller, playing the role of Ruben Studdard!) and a powerful rendition of "Let Go" from three-time Stellar Award winner DeWayne Woods.
New artists made sizeable impressions as the house was introduced to Susie Rock, the God-daughter of Deitrick Haddon. Rock is the first hip-hop artist on Flow Records and she rocked the house with two new cuts.
Equally impressive was Tarshe McMillan-Hamilton, wife of R&B crooner Anthony Hamilton. She debuted two new singles, which will be featured on her debut effort, hitting stores in February.
Check out the pictorial recap of the evening.
