Washington Projects
Light Up the Dark

They're back!!! The brother and sister tandem Jekob and Rachael Washington, known as Washington Projects, return with Light Up The Dark. While there is no drastic change in style compared to their Commanders Of The Resistance project (which generated hits such as as "You Are My World" with heavy video rotation on the Gospel Music Channel), the growth of the duo is evident in production, singing and also spiritually.

Jekob serves as the album producer for the majority of the songs along with help from Kajmir Royale and Luke Witherspoon III.

CD The title track is a mid tempo banger (courtesy of Royale) topped with autotune (for Jekob's vocals) where (Dub P) WP focuses on being "lights" in the midst of the dark world. This is pure heat!!!!

The group inspires and encourages with such songs as "You Are Beautiful", which reminds ladies that they are made to look a certain way because of God's design. Jekob shows his talent and ear for good music, providing a good pop landscape on this one.

Insert "Go", where Jekob and Rachael each spit a nice flow over a track full of finger snaps and crazy keyboard/synth rhythms. Royale did his thing on this one.

The twosome go after those who have backslidden in their walk with Christ or those who are just living their lives aimlessly on the jam, "Come Back To Me". This cut was previously heard on Gotee Records' compilation, Hip Hop 2010.

Please take note of "Heaven Here I Come", a wonderful gem about leaving material possessions behind and rejoicing in the fact of being heaven-bound.

The singing/rapping combination (Rachael on vocals, Jekob taking the mic with the rhymes) works very well for Washington Projects. It's a good balance and both are showing prowess in a difficult field.

"Momma" is a clever song that should be felt by those close to their mother who understand the sacrifices that only a mom can make. It's a good easy-listening song that just serves as a "keep your head up" and "things are going to get better" message to those mothers who get weary at times.

Soapbox moment: People, this is a group that needs to be heard. They have the music, the style and the substance. Step out of the shadows and support Washington Projects' Light Up the Dark.
