Donnie McClurkin DVD: Again
The musicality and the ministry of Donnie McClurkin finds its way onto DVD, with live cuts from his popular and high-charting ...Again project, captured digitally.
The capacity crowd at the West Angeles Cathedral in Los Angeles enjoyed every second of this concert. With the capable Don Moore directing the video and the award-winning Omega Productions team of Paul and Donna Christensen ensuring smoothness on the production end, the 63 minutes are a treat. Front row center is the feel of the camera work, with plenty of hand-held lensing and boom cameras bringing it home.
Unlike the CD companion, the DVD begins with McClurkin getting things warm with Joseph Vogels' "Victory Chant (Hail Jesus)" the same popular praise that was also featured on the Live in London project that vaulted the NY-based singer and preacher to household recognition.
The set then moves to a rousing cover of Sly Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", with McClurkin imparting a genuine scriptural take to the lyrics. In fact, throughout the filmed concert, McClurkin offers up brief intros that serve to explain the meaning behind each subsequent song.
The enthusiasm of the young children's voices of the Antioch COGIC Children’s Choir comes through beautifully in both audio and visuals on two back-to-back selections the hard reggae of "I'm Walking" and the encouraging lyrics of "Yes You Can".

Then Judith Christie-McCallister enters to lead the powerful West Angeles COGIC Choir behind McClurkin and his singers on "Create in My A Clean Heart" and "Holy". With full strings and orchestra in support, both are powerful worship experiences.
McClurkin introduces and honors Lynette Hawkins-Stephens, bringing her out to join him in duet on the Walter Hawkins' classic "Special Gift". Hawkins-Stephens tears into the song, which culminates in searing lyric emphasis of the name of Jesus.
Then to close out the live set, the melodic ballad "All I Ever Really Wanted" brings down the curtain.
The DVD is not over however, as the lushly filmed "The Prayer" from director Millicent Shelton is included, featuring both McClurkin and Yolanda Adams on the David Foster tune.
