TriCity Singers
Testify Remix CD
EMI Gospel steps into the commercially available remix arena with
this 5-track beaut.
Label chief Ken Pennell explains it like this: "The musical creativity of
Tri-City Singers and the powerful messages
contained within their songs need to be heard everywhere we can find
listening ears. This includes audiences like the dance clubs and radio
stations that have not traditionally embraced gospel music."
House remix phenom Junior Vasquez has a great deal
of fun with the Testify track from Tri-City’s
recent TriCity4.com project (see review).
Stretching the Donald Lawrence song to more than 9 minutes (from its original 4:30), he transforms it into multi-faceted celebration of innovative mixing, dry house beats and expertly spliced choir samples from the original song. It’s called “Junior’s Sunday Morning Mix”, and includes several extended instrumental breaks, with rhythms that possess such a subtle syncopation you wonder ‘is it just me hearing that’?
LeJuene Thompson’s classic vocals made the original a hit; it’s a no-brainer that it’s the color of her unique pipes that truly set off Vasquez’s creation here too. "Testify! Testify!" she cries, and the remix maestro make sure that point comes home.
The EP also comes packaged with a shortened 6:30 “Junior’s Radio Mix” which contains an altered soft organ instrumental intro. Rounding it out are the instrumental remix track, a semi-accapella “Junior Padapella Mix” and the original album mix.
Look for DJs to start spinning this one into oblivion, as it's available on 12' wax too.
Producer: Junior Vasquez
