Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires
It's Your Time
After the successful release of his solo project (see album review), North Carolinian Luther Barnes joins his longtime family quartet, The Sunset Jubilaries, using his skills as songwriter, arranger, lead singer and producer to offer It’s Your Time.
There’s more than three decades of experience and two generations of family togetherness working here, so when you combine all of that talent, you get a powerful studio set filled with sheer praise.
The project kicks off with the slow and mellow title cut as Barnes lends his soothing tenor in a tribute to those who have worked in the vineyard for the Lord. Call it the group’s signature tune, for it’s filled with encouragement for the faithful, telling them that that their time will come.
As a contrast, “Hallelujah Praise” racks up the tempo and sets the scene for praise party. Co-written by Barnes and Mark Greene, it’s a traditional drive that compels you to throw up both hands, jump, shout and dance, because there's simply no way you can sit down.
Greene also adds his pen to “Free Indeed”, a pop-inflected gem that Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires use to praise Jesus for setting us free from the weary world of sin.
On “Jesus Saves”, Barnes presents a new arrangement that penetrates the soul with its slow beat and powerful message that it doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, it's simple: Jesus saves and He will save anybody, regardless of their deeds.
Vocals throughout It’s Your Time are stellar; and the harmonies are warm and resonant. The instrumentation doesn't leave you desirous of any beat or tone, as the band is strong, full of energy and lock's some serious grooves on every track uptempo or slow.
Special to the project is medley tribute to Rev. F.C. Barnes. Titled “Tribute To Dad”, it’s a heart-warming collection of six songs that Barnes and group string together to honor one of Gospel’s traditional pioneers. Included here are “So Many Wonderful Things”, “I Know The Sun Will Shine Again” and “All God’s Children Be There”.
As you listen, you can fill the love that the group has for the elder Barnes as they sing some of these song favorites recorded by him over the years. This is so special and befitting to a man who has given Gospel so many great hits.
Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaries doesn't leave the listener wanting for anything. This project is filled with music of encouragement and strong messages of God's love for his people. You will not be disappointed.
