Songs for a Purpose Driven Life
Buster and Shavoni continue to extend their expertise to further reaches of Gospel territory. Know for their early work with Kirk Franklin as well as their award-winning production of the Prince of Egypt Inspirational Soundtrack, the West Coast duo step into new shoes on Songs for a Purpose Driven Life, showing them to be skilled at a diverse range of styles.
They put their production stamp over this thematic gem of a project which takes its title from renowned Saddleback Pastor Rick Warren's popular book (The Purpose Driven Life).
The album is a compilation of new music from artists spanning genres from pop to gospel, from rock to soulful balladry. Lyrically, it is tied together with its emphasis on glorifying God through all actions and activities in our lives.
Jill Zadeh continues to impress with everything her clear soprano touches. On the album-defining "What On Earth (Am I Here For?)", she shows wonderful promise with her tender rendering of the pop/soul feel of the vocal arrangement. Buster and Shavoni provide all the polish, not that she needs any.
The album is chock full of such promising new artists, showcasing great soulful vocals from names such as Heath Burgett who hails from Pastor Clint Brown's camp (he duets with Lauren Evans in a gorgeous acoustic guitar-blessed, choir-backed ballad, "Thy Will").
Likewise, Vaneese Thomas with "Send Me", praise and worship's Aaron Gayden on "We All Need" and Saddleback's own Lyndsey Lloyd Wallace sings out on the gentle "Reach One More For Jesus".
Familiar names surface with the acoustic soul/folk of "Magnify" from Nicole C. Mullen and the warm, comforting vocal groove of "Family of Love, Family of God" from Take 6.
Clint Brown's "Lord I Live" has a Gospel-tinged edge, and the album has some edgier inclusions such as Kevin Max's "Just An Illusion" and Adam Watts' "To Be Used By You".
The concluding cut is "My Life Will Worship You", a nicely harmonized praise song from the trio of Morris Chapman, Charles Billingsley and Rick Muchow).
Dpn't let this compilation slip your watch. Chock full of great moments from both familiar and breaking artists, Songs For A Purpose Driven Life comes highly recommended.
