Jerard Woods
I Waited

Having spent the last decade or so as one of Gospel's most notable background vocalists, Jerard Woods steps to the forefront with his debut album on Found Sound Music, aptly titled I Waited. This 11-track offering spans the musical gamut, visiting urban and traditional, and providing a solid musical platform for Woods to showcase his vocal prowess.

CD Years of work with vocalist CeCe Winans is abundantly evident, for Woods presents his vocals and musical presentations with poise and grace. In an era where vocalists concentrate on vocal acrobatics, Woods stays in his lane and leans on his vocal tone and musical ability to deliver the powerful message of God's love and sovereignty.

Check out the mid-tempo grooves "Higher Place" and "Who", along with the soulful, '70s tinged "My God", which all warrant repeat spins.

Tying all of it together is the strength of Woods' musical selections. Woods shows himself to be an accomplished writer, writing or arranging six of the project's eleven tracks. The title track, featuring wife Jovaun Woods, and "Pray to Your God" are incredible cuts that deserve serious attention.

Woods adds the icing to the album's cake with remakes of classics "To The God Who Reigns" (from Babbie Mason) and the timeless "Hold On Old Soldier" from Walter Hawkins.

Though a long time coming, Woods' debut effort in no way disappoints and shows the strength of his vocal aptitude as a solo artist. Without question, I Waited is definitely worth the wait.
