Greater King David Male Chorus
It's Our Time Now!
Hailing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, The Greater King David Male Chorus debuts with a distinctive 16-track project filled with the characteristic sounds of traditional Gospel sung with gusto.
Recorded live at the Greater King David Baptist Church, the album features full orchestral accompaniment, as well as several lead solos from the congregation's pastor, Dr. John E. Montgomery III, who takes the mic on several songs. Prime among these is "The Devil Tried to Steal My Joy", which is spread out over three tracks.
Lively cuts include "He'll Make It Alright", with Alvin Johnson Jr. out front and the rolling "I Am", with its looping melody and Curtis Bell's tenor lead. "Come Unto Me Ye Who Labor" is also memorable.
The halfway point on the album is marked by a the brassy, funky, orchestral number titled "Praise Power". Written by Lawrence Jackson, its distinctive groove combines traditional edges with innovative brass arrangements.
"Soon Will Be Done" is a nice contemporary arrangement of the familiar spiritual, with a fantastically soulful lead from the youthful Orrin Newman.
Male choruses in Gospel music are far and few between. Grab this project not only for that, but also for its creative musical arrangements.
