My Purpose Pugh is pastor of the Original Worship Ministry and is devoted to keeping the focus on God through her music. My Purpose is a 13-track project with two bonus instrumentals and features a variety of writers and several songs that are odes to gospel and CCM standards. The set offers contemporary, traditional, and praise and worship inspired sounds, with an overall smooth and calming sound mixed with a few hand clapping and foot stomping selections to keep your ears perked up for more. Pugh stands alone vocally on this project, with the exception of "All For the Love" which also brings in Tionne Williams. With good musical production and background vocals Genita provides a project with different sounds that can appeal to different audiences. The project opens up with a smooth sound with "Can't Live", penned by R. Kelly. Pugh's heavy alto tone is complimented by the musical elements and flow of the song, which transitions to a reprise featuring the church favorite "I Love You" by Edwin Hawkins. This opener sets the tone for what follows, which varies in tempos, but has a praise & worship feel. The mid-tempo "Who Can" is a song that you could nod your head to while on the go. Pugh takes a page from the book of Paul Baloche with a nice spin on his classic "Open The Eyes Of My Heart". The vocal arrangements, tempo, and a few variations to the words make the song become her own. Some other standout tracks on the project are"Who Can" Do You Love The Lord", "In The Presence Of The Lord" and "There Is None Like The Lord". Check out My Purpose by Genita Pugh today and enjoy her smooth, calming spin on some familiar sounds of Gospel.
