Badia
God's Woman
There is so much holy hip hop going on in Philly.
Next up is Badia. With rhymes reminiscient of female hip hop pioneers Money Love, MC Lyte and Roxanne Shante, Badia drops a nice debut in God's Woman.
East Coast reigns on the project, and Badia's fine mix of accent and flow creates instant appeal.
Kevin Arthur (The Cross Movement) handles all of the production on the project, and Badia gets some help from some of The Cross Movement crew. After an intro by T.R.U. L.I.F.E., Badia admonishes the people to “Speak Out” with sheer passion under a gritty beat from Arthur.
The emcee then ministers to the women on “Sister” and “Covered Girl” the catchy hook on the former cut and Arthur’s nice beat and smooth synth rhythms will have anyone (man or woman) singing the anthem.
Badia then flexes her lyrical muscles on “Persuaded”, spitting sure-fire lyrics on top of Arthur's potent mix of old school beats.
Ericka Arthur and Phanatik (from The Cross Movement) guest on the R&P-tinged “Fragmented Pieces”. Phanatik takes the persona of God and drops a rhyme unlike his usual flow. You might as well get your finger poised over that repeat button right now, because this cut qualifies for more multiple plays.
Perhaps the best cut on “God’s Woman” is “Marriage”. Badia and T.R.U.T.H. take turns on the beauty of a pure and holy relationship on this smooth song with a butter beat and dope rhymes.
DJ Dummy makes it hot on the 1’s and 2’s on “Old School”. Kevin Arthur lays a nice retro 80’s beat and Badia spits retro rhymes to make it like 1987 all over again. Yes Yes Ya’ll!
Badia scores big with this debut. With nice rhymes, dope beats and great guest shots, God's Woman captures the essence of hip hop and it's holy.
