RECAP: Bonnerfide Radio Launch Party at the 25th Annual Stellar Awards (2010)
The jam-packed and star-studded Stellar Award weekend is over, but the event that people are still talking about is the Launch Party of GOSPELflava's own Gerard Bonner, and his Stellar Award nominated online radio show, Bonnerfide Radio!
Bonnerfide Radio has quickly gained national attention and the support of major gospel artists. VaShawn Mitchell, Nikki Ross, JoJo Martin, Zebulon Ellis, PJ Morton, Jonathan Nelson, Jason Nelson, George Huff, Melinda Watts, Myron Butler, Candy & Peaches West, Kevin Lavar, Algernon, Tre Thomas, Claude Deuce, Adrienne Archie, Sheri Jones-Moffett, Rae Ellis, CMO, Dominique Side, JJ Hairston, Darnell Davis & Remnant, Lisa Page Brooks, and more came together in ONE ROOM, for a one night only concert and performance on Friday, January 15th, 2010.
Despite all that was going on in Nashville, artist, musicians, producers, and prominent people in the industry made their way to the Limelight Entertainment Complex to witness the launch. Hosted by AOL Black Voices Columnist, and Tom Joyner Morning Show online personality, Jawn Murray, this display of independent and major gospel artists has already been dubbed a favorite, leaving many excited about what the 2011 show will potentially bring.
I had the awesome opportunity to be a part of this event by not only attending, but also singing with the Bonnerfide Radio Crew Choir! This talented group of singers met on Twitter and in the Bonnerfide Radio chat room. Without having any rehearsals, or previous experience singing with each other, we truly set the room on fire. under the direction of BET.com's Torrence Glenn, the choir sang such classics as "Awesome God", "It's My Time", and even shared the stage with Myron Butler and JJ Hairston on "Great Expectation". This choir has certainly created a buzz in the industry be on the lookout for what's next to come from the BRC Choir.
The evening kicked off with an energetic performance by CMO, and the party was under way! BRC favorites such as Rae Ellis, San Franklin, Kevin Lavar, Dominque Side, Tre Thomas, and Algernon performed their hits which are currently in heavy rotation on Bonnerfide Radio. It was night of firsts as sister background vocals duo Candy and Chelsea "Peaches" West sang as a duo for the first time in public! The West girls looked beautiful and brought something refreshing and new to the Gospel scene. Stay tuned... you haven't heard the last from these dynamic vocalist.
VaShawn Mitchell and Lisa Page Brooks took the entire room into worship as they sang worship anthems from Lisa's current release, and VaShawn's new album which is slated to be released later in 2010. God should never be put into a box as people began to lift their hands and worship in a club.
Getting us geared up for his recording next month, Jonathan Nelson and brother Jason Nelson took to the stage to sing, "Right Now Praise", and "My Name Is Victory" featuring Nikki Ross, and Candy and Peaches West on backing vocals.
Melinda Watts took us back to the reason why she won Gospel Dream by singing "Tis So Sweet", and her latest single, "So Good".
George Huff captivated the crowd singing songs from his self titled album, and his infectious personality took us back to church.
One of the surprises of the night came from PJ Morton. The crowd erupted when he and his band members, Claude Deuce, Zebulon Ellis, and JoJo Martin took the stage to sing "Mountains and Mole Hills"!
Sheri Jones Moffett sang "Grace of God" and what an on time song it proved to be. After leaving the party, Gerard and his assistant were in a major car accident that totaled their car and could have taken their lives! The two walked away from the accident, with only minor injuries and were back at it the next day.
Gerard Bonner's movement is definitely something to watch out for! Bonnerfide Radio is online broadcasts Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. on www.getbonnerfide.com
