Gene Hoskins Celebrates Homecoming

In this time of change and new norms, bright moments and silver linings are needed more than ever. Gospel singer Gene Hoskins’ music ministry is the type of inspiration that can move mountains. “As a therapist, I often help people deal with stress, trauma, and transitions in life. I tell them to utilize their social and natural supports (hobbies, church, family) to help them cope,” reflects the touring musician and practicing psychotherapist. “I woke up one morning feeling overwhelmed and stressed myself and I decided to take my own advice and use the things that make me happy in order to combat my own stress. I started singing and thinking about Jesus. I hummed this tune and stuck with me all day,” shares Hoskins about his latest and riveting single, “Make It With Jesus.” He adds, “My hope is that the relief I felt after singing it translates to others and it can be a healing tool in some way.” “Make It With Jesus” initially came out on Hoskins independently released Homecoming in January 2021. It hit Top 14 on Billboard’s Gospel chart. On October 29, 2021, Shanachie Entertainment will release a deluxe version of Homecoming with three new tracks, finally giving the recording the widespread visibility it deserves. Shanachie Entertainment General Manager Randall Grass states, “There are many wonderful singers in gospel music but Gene Hoskins’ voice and ability to put across genuine spiritual feeling without a lot of histrionics makes him extra special, as you can hear in the overflowing joy of ‘Make It With Jesus.’”

A native of Charlotte, NC, gospel artist Gene Hoskins has toured as a background vocalist for Jonathan Nelson and Maranda Curtis, and served for Todd Dulaney and Micah Stampley, among numerous others gospel greats. Hoskins is featured on Jonathan Nelson’s single “I Agree,” Maranda Curtis’ “Nobody Like You Lord Reprise” and Pastor John P. Kee’s “I Made it Out. 4 Kings Remix.” He is also currently featured in a movie written by Pastor John P. Kee entitled The Lost Song. Hoskins garnered widespread attention in 2019 as an independent artist with the release of his EP The Undefeated, which peaked at #7 on the Billboard’s Gospel Charts.

Gene Hoskins counts it a blessing, and privilege to minster on and off the stage to God’s people. In addition to his music ministry, he owns his own psychology practice called Peace of Mind Psychological Services, PLLC located in Durham. He realizes that even on his best day and in his best strength, he is still unworthy of the favor that God has granted. Hoskins concludes, “People have shared with me that my song ‘Make It With Jesus’ has resonated with them even more so given the significant changes, loss and trauma we have collectively experienced,” he states. “As one of the first COVID-19 cases in NC, this song had to come alive for me. AND IT DID!”
