Tiffany Laing
The Return

Tiffany Laing is back with The Return. Laing doesn’t stray away from her mixture of Neo-Soul, jazz, soul and poetry, as husband Lew Laing and also Les Butler share the bulk of the production duties while the Laings combine in songwriter.

CDThe New Jersey native delivers mid-tempo gems such as the uplifting “Brand New Reason” and the funky “Mary Jane”, a cut which sees the much-vaunted Corey Red laying down a nice rhyme as he and Laing encourage a young lady in telling her of God’s love and forgiveness.

On the jazzy “I Am”, Laing croons over a smooth organ and bass guitar groove, easily bringing an imagine of those old nightclubs of the 1950’s.

Another standout is the ode “Sista” featuring Nysa Shenay and Lariland. Each singer gives their respective takes on the way that they were down for each other during the rough times. Darrell Crook’s rhythm guitar, Lew Laing’s integral drum programming and Rob McDonald’s bass accentuates the ladies’ vocals nicely.

Tiffany LaingOn “Yashua”, Lew Laing and Butler move to the side as the Laing’s son Brian aka B-RoCK supplies the music while his mother recites praise poetry.

Ballads are plentiful on The Return, as evidence by the honest “Fly Away” and the worshipful “More (Of You)”, that has Laing declaring she does not have enough of Jesus over the smooth and soul-laden R&P melody laid down by Lew Laing.

Then there’s the peaceful “My All”, where Laing starts off real smooth with her lower register before belting out her promise that she will give God everything as the song builds to a climax. Other gems on the album are “No Greater Love”, “He Loves Me” and “Words”.

Tiffany Laing comes back better than ever on The Return, strengthening the arsenal of Gospel’s neosoul.
