Sara Von Davenport Anointed Praise
Tommy Boy Gospel celebrates its fourth release and
introduces its second new artist in less than a month with
the arrival of Sara Von Davenport. This 17-year old
sensation brings forth a tremendous effort titled Anointed
Praise, with a great mix of old school and new school
tracks. Produced by Derek “DOA” Allen, this project
brings Sara together with some of gospel’s most renowned
names, including Andrae Crouch and Fred Hammond.
Some of the more memorable tracks from this project include
the leadoff track, “Higher”, “Have a Little Mercy”, and “The
Best That I Can Do”. Reminiscent of Vanessa Bell
Armstrong, Davenport sings with emotion and feeling
while still bringing the ‘flava that burns up the urban
ear.
“Sara Von”, as she is often referred to throughout
the album, also includes an awesome remake of the old
Andrae Crouch classic, “Jesus Is the Answer”. While
the project speaks to a diverse audience, Davenport
maintains her youth and addresses issues from the
heart, as documented in the song “The Best That I
Can Do”. Davenport is sure to appeal to fans of
Brandy and Monica with gorgeous
ballads as well as tracks laced with pure funk.
This project is definitely a “keepa” and maybe even a collector’s item.
