Bishop Michael V. Kelsey
& The New Samaritan Mass Choir
I’ll Sing To You

The New Samaritan Mass Choir comes alive on disk on I’ll Sing To You.

The project was recorded live at the church’s home in Washington, DC, and features a fascinating smattering of Gospel guests to complement the the strong stylings of Bishop Michael V. Kelsey.

Carla Bowens directs, collaborating with both Isaiah D. Thomas and the late Michael Robinson on production. Bishop Kelsey contributes his deep and dramatic baritone voice to many selections throughout the CD.

CDAmong highlight cuts from the project’s fourteen tracks are “Yes, That’s My Father” penned by Maurette Brown-Clark, a soft ballad that receives special vocal treatment from Brian Boddle.

There's also “Come To Jesus Now” which features Bishop Paul S. Morton, and it’s all that is expected of the Bishop’s musical ministry —nearly eight minutes of rich and soulful vocals combined with an impassioned lyrical appeal. The invitational is written by the prolific Marvin McCoy.

Doug and Melvin Williams guest on “I’ve Been Blessed (The Goodness of the Lord)” as well as “I Worship You”. One traditional, one balladic, both songs capture the listener with the brothers’ beloved, well-known and warm vocals.

The mass church choir step up with the energy on several songs, with a case in point being Guy Robinson’s “There’s Power In the Name” which has Isaiah Thomas out front.

Of special note on the project is “Lift Him Up – The Hymn”. Here, the songwriting and keyboard genius of Michael Robinson is apparent. Trina Lattimore ably takes solo duties, as familiar lyrics unfold into a musical setting that has elements of both classical arrangement and freestyle Gospel improvisation.
