![]() No Other Name The Mount Calvary Baptist Church Mass Choir delivers a wonderful project, titled No Other Name, a live recording filled with thirteen songs and featuring special guest Carlton Burgess (listen to audio clips below). Starting things off is "I Must Keep Lifting Him Up", a choir piece that sets the tone for the album. With band in full throttle (including saxophonist Rob Maletick - read solo album review), key modulations move higher and higher with the lyrics "I feel better now that I'm lifting, there's power in the lifting). On the midtempo "It Was You", produced by Michael Hill, the choir testifies en masse how God has always provided and supplied. Half way through the cut, the three choir sections split into an intricately and infectiously arranged weave of parts, making it an unforgettable expression of gratitude. Other notable songs are the balladic title cut, "No Other Name", featuring Angela Patterson, and "Trust God", with Angela Renee Shyllon and Vicky Crosby out front. "God knows what's best for me" sing the soloists, with choir reinforcing the message over a rhythmically punctuated instrumental backdrop. "Psalm 100" is lead by the youthful Cierra Hill and Marquiesha Purvis, who put enthusiasm into this musical rendition of the praise psalm. Guest Carlton Burgess puts both choir and band through their paces with the traditionally-gilded "Rejoice". As they are throughout this project, the ensemble is certainly up to the task. No Other Name isn't on a major label, but don't let that stop you from checking it out. You'll be delighted you did. Listen to the audio provided below.
