K&K Mime
VIDEO: On The Road

The art of Gospel mime has the unique ability of putting to visual what the soul experiences via the audio. When done well, the effect can be overwhelming, serving to bring home the lyrics of the song even more poignantly.

videoAmong the leaders in the genre are K&K Mime, consisting of identical twins Keith and Karl Edmunds. Natives of Pittsburgh, PA, the duo have been criss-crossing the country for years, bringing their expressive actions to theatres and church platforms.

With the recent release of a home video titled On The Road, the duo serve up just over an hour of their most beloved song interpretations, using footage filmed at various venues over the past seven years, from Bishop Eddie Long’s New Birth Church New Year’s eve service, to segments from Bobby Jones Gospel. They narrate the video themselves, introducing each segment with voice-overs.

Included are mimed theatrics of Vickie Winans’ “We Shall Behold Him”, and “Oh What Love”, also sung by Winans. The familiar strains of Glenn Burleigh’s “Order My Steps” with Mimi Redd fronting the GWMA Women of Worship, is a highlight, as K&K Mime step out the actions to the inspiring prayer.

No doubt, the pinnacle of the collection is battle between the Christian and Satan on “Standard”, sung by Witness. With the miming done to perfection, one costumed in black and the other in white, K&K Mime dramatically convey the ongoing spiritual battle faced by everyone bought by the blood of the Lamb.

The video ends with a multiple-costume change number that brings in steppers for support, titled “Kirk Medley”. The song mix brings in all of Kirk Franklin’s hits over the years as K&K Mime act out the scenarios.
