Church Choir Projects (2)
We continue our scan of church choir projects from across the country. Due to restricted
distribution, these may not blowing up on the national charts, are no doubt wearing out the electronic circuitry of the music systems of their respective congregational home bases.
Make a point of checking out our first part in this series. And bookmark this spot, as we'll be adding more projects here in the time to come.
The Abundant Life Cathedral Choir
Life - There's Something More
The smash single, “All That God Said” never fails to elict a response, with Mark Taylor’s gritty and honest lead vocal setting off V. Michael McKay’s masterwork. With lyrics that are at once affirmative and humble, this cut sounds the bell for this Texas choir, who present power in mass vocals throughout the project. Briefly making their presence felt on Billboard charts in 1999, there is no doubt the album deserves more exposure, with a solid live production feel, beautiful songwriting and nice musicianship (eg. Luke Austin on keys, Patrick Tribbit on bass).
Presented by Dr. Ed Montgomery, who with his wife Saundra add their own compositions to the mix, you'll find that picking up Abundant Life Cathedral Choir’s debut will be a
refreshing activation of classic Gospel. Remind yourself that this brand
of Gospel will never go out of style.
Martin Luther King Sr. Choir
Lord, You Bring Me Joy
Out of the famed Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, comes this distinctive vocal praise offering. Distinctive because it successfully welds together the symphonic and classical with the traditional Gospel sound. Selections range from Mozart’s “Gloria in Excelsis” to an acappella “In Christ There Is No East or West” to numerous original compositions and arrangements from the choir’s director, Lanvester Jackson.
Seasoned soloists abound in The Martin Luther King Sr. Choir, making their presence felt on “Lord You Bring Me Joy”, including Frank Brown on “Worthy To Be Praised” and Carolyn Evans on “Jesus Is Always There”. The work on this disk shows that Ebenezer Baptist has more claim to fame than the fact that they their late pastor was the Rev. Martin Luther King Sr. (call 404-688-7263)
