Anthony Evans
Even More

He is the son of phenomenal pastor and author, Dr. Tony Evans. He sang with the traveling group, Truth, for two years. He is currently a backup singer with Kirk Franklin.

One could say that Anthony already has enjoyed a great deal of success in the CCM and Gospel music industry. But now there's Even More.

CDEvans has stepped out on his own to release Even More, an album for the masses, filled with music painted on a soulful, CCM aural canvas, with accents of Gospel sound running through it. The album features production from veterans such as Pete Kipley, Dan Muckala, Gred Bieck, Shaun Shankel and yes, Kirk Franklin.

Evans' vocal presence is like no other, which makes it difficult to describe. He comes right out the blocks with "He Knows My Name", an uptempo pop jam full of his own stacked background vocals and some nice guitar work from Michael Ripoll. Evans wrote the song along with the husband and wife team of Bernie Herms and Natalie Grant.

"Fearless" is a Kipley-produced CCM number that asks God to help him conquer all of his fears. Evans' tenor pipes soar, ensuring us his sincerity to be made fearless.

On "Incredible" and "I Love You", Anthony shows that he can easily let his soul flow. "I Love You" is reminiscent of something that Carl Thomas or Musiq Soulchild might offer. With a dope bass line, melodic rhythm guitar and background magic courtesy some help from Angela Cruz and Terry White, the piece is memorable.

Anthony Evans spoke with Gospelflava.com about his debut. Here is what he had to say:

"My record is just me. I am not a Gospel or a Contemporary Christian singer all the way. I just took my heart, put it on paper and musically combined different styles of what I grew up listening to.

I was so all over the place musically. I was listening to everyone from Andrae Crouch to Commissioned to Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant. Contemporary Christian music is like the core of who I am. Then Gospel is on the outskirts. It has influenced me a lot in the last couple of years.

The song “The One” came from a conversation that I was having with Kirk Franklin. I was realizing as a background singer that I was trying to please him. That’s wrong. Kirk Franklin is my brother, but I cannot sing to please him. I was trying to do it and I was miserable. “The One” came out of that conversation.

So my record is just me trying to be real and encouraging people in their walk. I want people to realize that God doesn’t want performance. He wants our hearts. He wants us."

Kirk Franklin steps in to lend his production and ad-libbing skills to "Incredible", as he and Evans jointly declare their awe of the love of Jesus. Lush instrumentation from keyboardist Bobby Sparks and guitarist Todd Parsnow along with the (always on point) background vocals of Ashley Guilbert and Candy West make "Incredible" even better.

On of the album high points is "The One", a touching ballad with lyrics that have Evans expressing his desire to make God his primary focus, instead of trying to please man.

Crystal Lewis sings with Anthony on the triumphant "United We Stand", with Franklin and Sparks producing. The theme of racial and denominational unity is forefront as Lewis and Evans flow well together, making you hunger for more duets between these two. Evans' fellow Kirk Franklin singers support on the cut: Shanika Leeks, Myron Butler, Candy West, Jana Bell and Ashley Guilbert.

Evans pays homage to his father on the ballad "Just Like You". This is a song that is perfect for Father's Day and for any time anyone wants to dedicate a song to their father.

Contemporary Christian artist Ginny Owens co-writes with Evans on the strings-filled "Restore Me". Wonderfully written and, beautifully sung, "Restore Me", could be up for Song of the Year honors.

Other highlights are the title track, the hype "Everything In Me" and urban slow jam, "Be Still".

Even More is a stunning debut album by a talented vocalist and songwriter, featuring several songs that are perfect fits across a broad spectrum of radio formats.

No wonder Yolanda Adams said that "When you hear the voice of Anthony Evans Jr., you hear the sweetness and power that only comes from a heart that thirsts for God!"
