"It was overwhelming!", says Winans, about the event that was sponsored by Chrysler Financial. Things began in Detroit on July 28, 2005 and concluded with the finals in the Motor City on November 4th. "All the cities [in between] were phenomenal! I just couldn’t believe all the support we received from the people and Chrysler!" Winans exclaimed. Each stop on the tour was saturated with talented hopefuls vying to be the next Gospel sensation on Winans’ own record label, Destiny Joy Records. But there could only be one winner and Datisha Pickett was the chosen one. When asked about the first Rising Star Winner, Winans says, "That girl is bad! I can’t wait to work with her." And work she will do. Plans are underway to work with Pickett beginning early in 2006.
And with a claim like that, you can be sure that she will live up to it. A live recording is scheduled to take place at House of Hope in Chicago over Mother’s Day weekend, May 2006, for Verity Records. The first single scheduled for release is "Alright, Alright." With a new artist, new project, and new record label, Vickie Winans is proof positive that God is still in the blessing business. Email This To A Friend
