Tre-9 has been building a pretty good following and the Texas Holy Hip Hop (HHH) Awards are starting to garner more attention from those outside the big state. Things are "poppin'" for the crew, something more than evident at these 2007 annual awards.
Col' Cutz Havikoro b-boying troupe set things off with a performance that would amaze anyone on mainstream Awards show. Teenagers, adults and even kids in elementary are part of this crew. Age didn't matter, because each dancer was excellent in his or her own way. B.L.U.E., out of Austin, Texas raised a few eyebrows and gave props to those who are rapping for Christ. His performance was passionate and heartfelt as he gave props to many different HHH artists. J Xavier, who is signed to Matthew Knowles' Musicworld Music, did his thing with some smooth moves and his fun-loving flow. He also put a word in for HIV awareness showing that making a difference is not limited to those 18 and up. B.L.U.E., Playdough and MUCH Luvv Records were all multiple winners with each bringing home two awards. Other award winners included: The Warriors, Pastor Dhati Lewis and DJ D. Lite. Cy delivered a well thought out and colorful performance of "The Circus". This was a performance that will not soon be forgotten with Cy serving as ringmaster and having a stage full of mimes signifying different types of people in society. To top off this performance, CY showed his juggling skills. Upcoming artists, Saved Philosophy (consisting of J Mase and Crystal), gave a stirring performance of their song, "Feels Good". Dressed in black and gold, this pair of teenagers showed much promise and an evident love for God. BB Jay and his crew served up a crunk number while newcomer Unique showed her nice chops dressed in a street-styled, but ladylike get-up. Shea Atkins showed her growth as an artist with the anthem "For the Ladies". Husband Drathoven and Marcus Ecby then joined her on stage for the new songs "Truck Bangin'" and "Gave My Life to God". The place went wild for this performance. Soulfruit brought the praise and tight choreography with their infectious song, "Celebrator". People were buzzing about MTV personality Sway's presenting of "Artist of the Year". Sway talked about how impressed he was of the event and even encouraged those in HHH to "never let anyone tell you that this isn't real Hip Hop". The night was successful. God was glorified. There were connections and friendships started and some great performances. Big ups to Tre-9 and all those who helped with this event.
