He took time out to speak with GOSPELflava about his new project, The Live Experience II (read album review), and his vision for the impact of the Rance Allen Group and gospel music in general. It was an honor and privilege to talk with him and gain insight into his world.

GOSPELflava.com: Rance, you are one of the true legends in gospel music, with recordings in the contemporary vein that go back to the early 1970s. What do you envision the legacy of your ministry being as you continue to create?

Rance Allen Group Rance Allen: I want to continue to create music that grabs the attention of the listener. The goal is continue to be a source of encouragement, inspiration, of course pointing individuals to Christ, and making a far reaching impact on a global level.

GOSPELflava.com: Tell us about this new release The Rance Allen Group Live Experience II. How do you describe its style and its sounds?

Rance Allen: I hope that it flows directly to the heart of those who hear it. I want it to grab their attention, make them move, make them dance. I want them to enjoy the experience and take and have a positive response to the message of Christ and the music. There are funky and interesting sounds and I want that to be grasped by hearers.

GOSPELflava.com: Who are some of your influences? Who do you draw from when creating music?

Rance Allen: I pull from various genres, but specifically James Cleveland, Mattie Moss Clark, and the Miracles. Just to name a few.

GOSPELflava.com: What is your favorite song on this project?

Rance Allen: Well I am definitely enthralled with the entire project and want listeners to listen to it all the way through. However, the ballads are phenomenal. Some of the songs that stand out are: "United We Stand", "Angel", "You That I Trust", "Holy One", "Hear My Voice". It's just a great project that I'm very proud of.

GOSPELflava.com: I love "Blessings", a song that you sing with John P.Kee on his new project The Legacy Project. In your opinion, what impact has John P. Kee made on the gospel music community over the years?

Rance Allen: John came along when gospel music needed a boost. He merged traditional and contemporary sounds and introduced a unique blend to gospel that we had not heard before. He has definitely been a revolutionary in the gospel music genre.

GOSPELflava.com: Are there any upcoming engagements or other projects that you are working on that you're excited about?

Rance Allen: There was the Stellar Awards, BET's Celebration of Gospel, the New Orleans Jazz festival, Bobby Jones Gospel.... we're just very excited about traveling and bringing this new music to everyone.

GOSPELflava.com: What would you like GOSPELflava.com readers to know?

Rance Allen: I envision this project ministering on various levels. We want the project to inspire people everywhere musically and spiritually. We want people to use this as traveling music. Music that will get people saved and keep them saved.
