GOSPELflava.com spent some time with the Bridgeport, Connecticut native, and discussed her national debut, the eponymously titled album on Tyscot Records. GOSPELflava.com: Tyscot Records recording artist Lucinda Moore! We have been hearing your name everywhere, your single, “Pressure Into Praise” made an excellent debut on the Billboard single charts, you just finished recording your first album, and you have been on every event known to man! How do you do it? Lucinda Moore: I’ve been saying this everywhere I go, “It’s your ministry, it’s your vision!” It’s not the label’s job to create who you are. It is the label’s job to back you up. I thank Tyscot Records for being a major support to me. But the fact of the matter is, one of the major things that attracted Tyscot to my ministry was the fact that I always had dates, I was a visible presence in the industry, and I’m a hard worker. And the rest is history! GOSPELflava.com: Tell us something about this release that Tyscot has backed you up on it’s a live recording, correct? Lucinda Moore: YES!!! The live recording was awesome! I could not believe it happened. I sat down and explained my vision to [label executive] Bryant Scott and they supported me all the way. I feel that I’m a more effective minister when singing live, versus in studio, so they let me do my thing. I’m especially proud of the fact that I wrote six songs and that I had to chance to co-produce this album. God allowed me to work with VaShawn Mitchell and my long time friend, Daryl Coley. And let me tell you, it was a dream to work with him. Coming up in the industry, he befriended me and supported me, so it only seemed natural to ask him to be a part of this project. GOSPELflava.com: A lot of people might not know that you have been in the industry for over 15 years. Lucinda Moore: I’ve been putting in my work! I did backup for the legendary Tramaine Hawkins from 1989 to 1993. Being with Tramaine was a blessing. She taught me the ropes. She has been a major instrument in teaching me everything from learning how to wear my makeup, to handling my business, to working a stage. And keep us in prayer because we’re trying to workout some tour dates together, so look out for that.
Lucinda Moore: Of course! I love Donnie McClurkin. I love Juanita Bynum I just did the Threshing Floor Conference with her wonderful experience. And Vickie Winans her work ethic is second to none. GOSPELflava.com: For those (the few?) not familiar with your ministry, tell us in your own words who exactly is Lucinda Moore? Lucinda Moore: Ooohhh, now that’s a good one! Who is Lucinda Moore? I am a minister of God’s Word. I am not an entertainer, I am not a show boat, I am not a diva and some people have tried to categorize me as a diva, but there are too many negative stereotypes attached to that word. This is ministry, and this is God’s ministry. There is no room for big-headedness here. I am anointed for such a time as this. I am God’s vessel and I thank Him for using me. GOSPELflava.com: Wow! Didn’t know you were going to preach! That was a good word! Lucinda Moore: I didn’t mean to preach, but I feel like all ministers need to have a word in their mouth. I can’t minister to others unless I can minister to myself first. When you see me minister, you are seeing the residue of what is inside of me. You can’t practice the anointing that has to come from within. GOSPELflava.com: What advice would you give to up and coming singers who are trying to break into the industry? Lucinda Moore: Wait on God!! Everything in your life is predestined; your steps are ordered by God. So don’t force it. If I can give you an example from my own experience, I tried to open doors for myself and God took His hands off and said, “Ok, since you want to move, I’ll wait for you to get done.” And He didn’t move until I took my hands off. Please, all singers, psalmists, songwriters, musicians, get in your Word. Matter of fact, go read Joshua 1:8-9. GOSPELflava.com: Congratulations on everything that has transpired. What can we look for next from you? Lucinda Moore: Well, the CD will be released in stores on August 27th, 2006, and I’m having a release concert after that. I’d like to give a shout out to Pastor Vinson and the High Point Family! GOSPELflava.com: Why do our people always have to give shout outs? (laughing!) Is there anybody else that you might have missed that you want to mention? Lucinda Moore: As a matter of fact, yes. I’d like to thank Specialties Management who helped me get my record deal. My Bishop! JC & Gloria White, my mom, my Grandma… I’d like to thank everyone who has supported my ministry and been influential in my career. GOSPELflava.com: What are some final thoughts you want to leave regarding the life of Lucinda Moore? Lucinda Moore: I don’t look like what I’ve been through. What you see now is not what’s always been. I’ve been through a lot, but God has been faithful. Men and women of God, hold your head up high, stay faithful to the things God has called you to, and let Him do the rest. Email This To A Friend
