Enter Charmaine Swimpson, background vocalist for Kirk Franklin, who celebrated her 25th birthday in style with a Gospel Celebration for the world to see. Not content to celebrate alone, the Chesapeake, Virginia native had a birthday concert, as family and friends packed Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia on Feb. 24, 2008 to join Swimpson in the joyous occasion. Sponsored by Ordained Productions and Make My Song a Hit, over a thousand well-wishers showed support and were treated to one of the most exciting celebrations of the year.
Men of Standard lead vocalist and background vocalist for Kirk Franklin, Isaac Carree, served as the evening's host, injecting great humor and sharing fantastic road stories surrounding Swimpson. The evening was full of incredible music from artists including Alex Holt & Free Worship, Michael M. Smith, and the debuting Grammy award-winning songwriter Keli Nicole, who penned the huge hit "Déjà Vu" from Beyonce. Other artists came to rock the house and celebrate this incredible occasion including Patrick Riddick (the assistant director for Ricky Dillard's New Generation Chorale) and D'Vyne Worship, BET Sunday Best alumnus Tasha Collins, Tamyya J, Coko featuring Lady Tibba, Jason Champion, and the 7 Sons of Soul. Amid all of the laughter and fun, Swimpson's heart shone bright, as she donated the proceeds of the event to the National Lupus Foundation. She shared the testimony that this disease impacted many of her family members and she wanted to see that a cure would be found for the illness. Relive this fun night and share in the celebration of one of gospel's most important vocalists. Email This To A Friend
